The Greater Richmond Children’s Choir (GRCC) is seeking a piano accompanist/assistant director for its training ensembles.  See the description below. This position is available immediately. Now in its 30th season, the Greater Richmond Children’s Choir has performed on four continents and in dozens of languages, earning acclaim for its excellence and diversity. Led by Artistic Director Crystal Jonkman and Associate Director Roshan Chakane, GRCC welcomes students ages 8 to 18, fostering musical growth through high-quality choral education and performance. Supported by generous community contributions, GRCC offers tuition and travel scholarships to over one-third of its members, ensuring accessibility for all. Beginner and advanced choristers alike are welcome to join.

JOB DESCRIPTION

· Primarily accompany and assist in instructing the Treble Choir (training choir) and Concert Choir (intermediate choir) on Tuesdays from 4:45 – 6:30 PM, with directors arriving 30 minutes beforehand. May be asked to fill in occasionally on other rehearsals.

· Accompany and assist in teaching during GRCC’s annual summer camp –July 26-30, 2027, 8:30-1:30
· Participate in Saturday rehearsals as scheduled once per semester
· Perform with the choir groups in 10-14 community concerts during the season at venues throughout the Richmond area, as scheduled.  See grcchoir.org/performances.
· Periodic additional rehearsals as needed.

· Participate in recruiting members and fundraising efforts.

· Tour with the choir every other year (domestic and international).


QUALIFICATIONS
· Piano accompanist with voice studio or choral accompanying experience

· Degree in relevant field

· Strong technical and artistic abilities
· Excellent music sight-reading skills
· Excellent advance rehearsal preparation

· High level of responsibility and professionalism

· A pleasant demeanor with strong communication skills
· Enjoys working with young singers

The accompanist/assistant director is considered a valued member of the GRCC artistic staff, and is expected to have a vested interest in the students’ growth and continued success.

Annual salary $4,500-$5,000 (approx. $41-$45/contact hour) based on experience and qualifications. Can be paid on a 10 or 12-month schedule as preferred. Opportunity exists for an expanded role with additional salary.

reference should be a conductor with whom you have worked.

An audition will be held during the scheduled interview to include 3 pieces:
1. Demonstrate accompanying and any conducting skills with music to be provided to candidate in advance.

2. Pianist’s Choice - prepare a piece/excerpt that best demonstrates your technique &
playing abilities. It can be any style, no longer than 2 minutes. Please bring an extra copy to the audition.
3. A sight reading piece which will be provided at the interview.
